Our Story

Wag the Dead started with a fairly simple observation: almost every pet Halloween costume is bad.

Not bad in an interesting way. Bad in the way that a limp felt hot dog bun is bad — it arrives thin and shapeless, it slides sideways within minutes, and it ends up photographed once and then stuffed into the back of a closet for the rest of its life.

Meanwhile the dog is the best part of anyone's Halloween. Everybody knows this. The dog is what people cross the street for. The dog is what ends up on everyone's camera roll.

So we went looking for the opposite of the felt hot dog. Something with an actual silhouette — a sculpted skull with a real jaw, a spine that runs the full length of the back, a tail with enough weight to sway when they walk. Something soft enough that a dog forgets they are wearing it, and open enough at the face that they can see, pant and drink like normal.

The bone-white version is the one we sell, and that is a deliberate choice. Halloween happens at dusk and after dark, under porch lights and streetlights. Dark costumes vanish in those conditions. White reads clean and skeletal from a distance and photographs beautifully in low light — which matters, because the photograph is really the point.

How we do business

We tell you the delivery cutoff honestly, even when a later date would sell more costumes. We tell you to size up when you are between sizes. We will talk you out of a purchase if we think the fit is wrong. And if it does not work out, the 30-day guarantee is real and we honour it without making you fight for it.

It is a dog costume. Nobody needs one. The least we can do is be straight with you about it.
